Series 3 | Episode 105

[On the beach, Lex and Bray are still unconscious and trapped in the beach buggy. Ebony looks on from atop a cliff as a Chosen in a light blue robe and three other Chosen approach the overturned vehicle. The one in the light blue robe seems to be in charge and motions one of the others forward]

Luke:  Check the bodies.
[The Chosen walks around the buggy to see Lex and Bray lying unmoving. He doesn't check for a pulse but is confident that they're both dead. He calls back to the others]
Chosen:  They're history!
Luke:  Right then, back to the Mall. [The Chosen rejoins the others] Now it is our turn to make history. In the name...of Zoot.
Chosen:  ZOOT! ZOOT! ZOOT! ZOOT! ZOOT! ZOOT!

[They turn to leave, chanting Zoot's name, as Ebony also moves off]
[In the city, there are Chosen guards posted at the entrance to the Mall. Inside, the Mallrats and other tribe leaders have been gathered. Trudy, holding Brady, observes them with a pleased expression and turns to speak to the approaching Guardian]

Trudy:  We have achieved great things today, Guardian. Don't you agree?
Guardian:  We have indeed, Supreme Mother. We have indeed.
[Under their gaze, the Mallrats continue to be incredulous of the new role Trudy is in]
KC:  "Supreme Mother!"
Guardian:  Silence!
Jack:  More like "Supreme Fruitcake."
Dal:  Jack, don't.
Ellie:  Yeah, they'll be expecting us to kneel to her next.
[The Guardian lifts his hands up and two guards place bladed staffs at the back of Ellie's neck and force her to her knees. Cloe makes an appeal to Trudy and the Guardian while Jack tries to break past the guards. He's not successful]
Cloe:  No, please, don't!
Jack:  Get off of her!
Guardian:  Supreme Mother?
Trudy:  She is nobody. Just like the rest of the Mallrats.

[The Guardian motions for the guards to release Ellie and she gets to her knees with the sound of her manacles jangling]

[Ebony runs up to the overturned buggy and kneels beside it. She's obviously worried]

Ebony:  Bray! Bray, don't die on me! Lex. Lex, please be okay!
[Lex slowly opens his eyes but it doesn't take him long to recover back to his old self]
Lex:   Hey honey. How 'bout a kiss.
[The Chosen from the beach return as Trudy comes down the stairs to meet them]

Trudy:  Where are Bray and Lex? I wanna see them kneel.
Luke:  They were killed, Supreme Mother.
[That news gets a reaction from her and her eyes widen in shock. The Mallrats too can't believe that they're friends are dead. Tai-San cries silently at the news that her husband is lost to her. May tries to comfort her and places her manacled hand on Tai-San's shoulder]
Trudy:  What? Both of them? The bodies, bring them to me.
Luke:  But, Supreme Mother...
Trudy:  Now! [He looks over her shoulder at the Guardian. Trudy, realizing that that's where the real authority lies, ascends the stairs to appeal to him] Bray has the blood of Zoot in his veins; we can't just leave him there.
Guardian:  Very well.

[He motions to the Chosen and they leave to retrieve the bodies]
[Ebony and Lex are carrying Bray, one under each arm, off the beach and into some cover. Bray's not exactly a lightweight]

Lex:  This would be so much easier without this sack of potatoes.
Ebony:  What's the matter Lex? You're not as strong as you like to pretend?
Lex:  Hey, I'm injured as well. I almost died back there, remember?
Ebony:  Just about isn't good enough. Now let's move.
[The Chosen return to the beach to collect Lex and Bray. They find their helmets but no bodies. Needless to say, they aren't happy. The lead Chosen turns to the one who originally checked the bodies for signs of life]

Luke:  Idiot! You told me they were dead.
Chosen:  They were!
[The lieutenant picks up one of the helmets and tosses it to him]
Luke:  Well where are they?
[Ebony and Lex get Bray safely further into the trees]
[The Guardian is not happy at the mistake made my the Chosen guard and has him on his knees on the floor of the Mall. The Mallrats are witnesses to his humiliation and so learn that their friends are not in fact dead. The thought that someone is out there to plan a rescue gives them some hope]

Guardian:  You have failed Zoot. You have allowed his enemies to escape. You will be severely punished.
Chosen:  Forgive me!
Guardian:  It is not for me to forgive. It is for Zoot. Take him away.
Chosen:  No, please. I'm sorry!
[The guard begs for his life but the Guardian has no mercy for someone who fails Zoot. He is carried out to some presumably horrible fate]
Guardian:  Send out a search party immediately. Don't worry, Supreme Mother. They can't have got far. We'll find them; I'm sure of that.

[The Guardian's words erase the hopeful look from Trudy's face. She should be careful to not be so transparent about her feelings for Bray]
[As Ebony, Lex, and Bray get farther away from the beach, the Chosen return with even more men to carry out the search. They run up to the hills from the beach]

Luke:  Two of you over there. You lot follow me, let's go.

[They split up and head off in different directions to cover more ground]

[Lex and Ebony set Bray down to lean against a tree. For Lex, this seems to be the last stop before he moves on]

Lex:  Here you go, buddy boy. It's the best we can do.
Ebony:  What do you mean?
Lex:  Well I don't know about you Ebony but I got places to go and things to do.
Ebony:  Lex you can't leave. Bray's hurt!
Lex:  Look, if I don't go out there and see what's happening, you and me, we could both be hurt.
Ebony:  Oh you're incredible, you know that!
Lex:  See ya around.
[He walks away as the sound of Chosen searchers reaches Ebony's ears]
Luke:  Fan out! And keep looking! Search through those trees!
Ebony:  Great Lex. Just great.

[She's now stuck with getting herself and an injured Bray, practically twice her size, to safety]

[A black van rides through the city streets blaring a message over the speakers. The message strikes fear into the hearts of those who hear it and there is screaming in the background]

Announcement: The city is under control of the Chosen! Surrender is salvation! Zoot is merciful! Report to the City Centre Mall!
[At the Mall, a guard shoves Salene and Ryan in to join the rest of the tribe. The others get them caught up on the situation]

Chosen:  You wanted your friends, here they are! Now stay inside.
Ryan:  What's going on?
Patsy:  It's the Chosen. What are they gonna do to us?
Ellie:  Well I don't know. But as long as we're all together, there's hope.
Jack:  Yeah. [Realizing this doesn't sound as confident as it should, he jumps in quickly] Yes, I mean definitely. Of course there, there is.
Ryan:  He's right Sal. As long as we stick together.
Salene:  But Ryan, I'm scared.
Ryan:  Don't worry, I'll look after you.
Salene:  I know you will, but-
Ryan:  Hey. We've come through worse times than this before.
Ellie:  Just don't let 'em get to you, that's the important thing.
Dal:  It's hard not to do. We're trapped, like rats in a cage.
[Patsy begins to cry softly]
Jack:  And there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it.
Dal:  Except what they tell us to do.
[Cloes notices Patsy's tears and puts her arm around Patsy's shoulders]
Cloe:  Don't cry Patsy.
Patsy:  I can't help it. It's all my fault. Everybody must hate me.
Cloe:  No they don't.
Patsy:  They do! They're right! I hate myself.
Cloe:  Don't worry, Trudy fooled everyone.
Patsy:  She didn't fool you.
Cloe:  Yeah, well, I was just upset cause she was taking you away from me.
Patsy:  Clo, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. You're such a good friend.
[The dog whines and everyone looks to see a pig coming around from behind the stairs]
Cloe:  Hey Patsy, it's Porky. He's safe.
Ellie:  Well look at that. Porky survived and so will we. We're not done for yet.
Dal:  Not while Bray's still out there.
Alice:  And Lex. Lex is out there too. Isn't that right Tai-San?
[Tai-San gives a nod and a small smile]
Ellie:  Yeah, what a partnership, eh?
[But not everyone thinks it sounds like such a good thing. Jet, the leader of the Gulls, walks down the stairs to stand beside Alice. She's bitter about the situation they're in, a situation she blames the Mallrats for]
Jet:  If they're all so wonderful, how come we let 'em all get us into this mess?
Alice:  Well I don't remember you and your lot being much help.
[Alice pushes her in the shoulder and isn't quite prepared when Jet grabs her and shoves Alice against the wall]
Jet:  Mallrats, huh?
[Alice pulls her fist back to do some damage but is interrupted by one of the guards]
Chosen:  Hey! What's going on there?
Jet:  I want outta here. I'm sick of being cooped up with a bunch of stinkin' Mallrats.
Chosen:  Tough. Now sit down and shut up.
Jet:  Let me see the Guardian.
Chosen:  What? Just who do you think you are?
Jet:  I'm the leader of the Gulls.
Chosen:  Leaders can't stay here.
[He gestures at more Chosen and she's roughly taken away. He sees the other tribe members and nods at them. Soon the only ones left are Mallrats]
Chosen:  Get them out too. Now the rest of you, sit down and shut up.
[That night, the Guardian leads a group of Chosen through a sermon of Zoot propaganda as Trudy stands by his side. They blindly repeat everything he says]

Guardian:  Zoot be praised for our great victory today.
Chosen:  Zoot be praised!
Guardian:  We pledge ourselves to increase his power. Throughout the land. Throughout the world.
Chosen:  May his power increase!
Guardian:  And to his enemies, and unbelievers, destruction and desolation.
Chosen:  Destruction and desolation to his enemies!
Guardian:  Zoot be praised. You may depart to your devotions.
[They turn to leave the room as the lieutenant Chosen approaches the Guardian and Trudy. She is eager to learn news of Bray and Lex and is upset when the Chosen cannot provide any]
Guardian:  Well?
Trudy:  Did you find them?
Luke:  Not yet, but we will.
Trudy:  When?
Luke:  We'll continue our search in the morning.
Trudy:  They'll be miles away by then!
Luke:  There's no point in continuing now.
Guardian:  Very well, the morning. First thing. But as long as they're out there they are a threat. And Zoot does not like being threatened. Do you understand?
[Could that be a veiled threat to the Chosen's life? If it is, he shows no sign of comprehension and answers meekly]
Luke:  Yes Guardian.
Guardian:  There must be no leaders left to provide a rallying point for the tribes. All their hopes must remain in Zoot. [He looks pointedly at Trudy] And no one else.

[Even if Bray comes back alive, it doesn't look as though the Guardian will let him remain that way]
[The Mallrats are scattered about the floor of the Mall as Alice paces restlessly among them. She heaves a sigh]

Alice:  I don't believe it! The nerve of that chick! I should have broken her neck.
Ellie:  Oh the Chosen would have loved that.
Alice:  I mean, what have the Gulls ever done for anybody?
Dal:  Ellie's right. The Chosen are the enemy here. We can't afford to fight amongst ourselves.
Jack:  Yeah. That'd send them down to the ground.
Ryan:  In that case then, why'd they take her out of here like that.
Ellie:  I get it. They think if they take away all the tribe leaders-
Alice:  We're a bunch of headless chickens? Is that what they think of us?
Dal:  Has anybody seen what happened to Danni?
Cloe:  She was definitely with us as the beach.
Jack:  Maybe she escaped.
Dal:  But has anybody seen her since?
Alice:  Maybe they got her.
Ellie:  You see what I mean? She was a leader.
Cloe:  So, what are they gonna do to them?
KC:  Bump 'em off. Liquify 'em.
Salene:  No, they can't!
Ryan:  KC, shut it.
May:  Makes sense.
Alice:  Yeah. Then what?
Jack:  You mean like, who's next?
[The next morning, in the woods, Ebony presses a cloth against Bray's forehead. He finally wakes but is groggy and confused]

Bray:  What?
Ebony:  Shh. Shh, take it easy.
Bray:  Where am I?
Ebony:  You're safe. With me.
Bray:  Uh, my head.
Ebony:  Here. [She pulls a flask from her bag and helps him drink] Better?
[Bray nods]
Bray:  What happened?
Ebony:  You got knocked out. You don't remember?
Bray:  Yeah, yeah. Yeah, how long?
Ebony:  All night. It's morning now.
Bray:  And Lex, where's Lex?
Ebony:  Who cares about Lex.
Bray:  Well, he rescued me from the Chosen.
Ebony:  Yeah, then he ran out on you!
Bray:  He did?
Ebony:  The Guardian and the Chosen would have got you. If it wasn't for me.
[She begins to play up the whole Florence Nightengale aspect of this little adventure but Bray is too busy blaming himself for their situation to notice]
Bray:  Thanks.
Ebony:  My pleasure.
Bray:  You shouldn't have bothered.
Ebony:  Why not?
Bray:  After all that I did. Turning you away when you tried to warn us about the Chosen. Driving you out like that. How could I be so stupid?
Ebony:  Yeah. How could you.
[Why argue when he's on a role? That way Bray takes all the blame and she doesn't have to admit to anything]
Bray:  You were right all along Ebony. Now it's too late.
Ebony:  It's never too late Bray. We can start over you and me.
Bray:  I gotta go back. I have to find Danni and the others. [He starts to stand but falls back in pain] Ah!
Ebony:  What?
Bray:  My leg. I can't, I can't move it.
Ebony:  Here, lean on me, okay?
[She pulls him up and supports him as he stands]
Bray:  Yeah. Ah!
Ebony:  Look Bray, I know it's tough right now but there's nothing you can do for Danni okay. Look I've gotta find you a place safe and, and get you fit again. And then, who knows. Come on.

[He nods in acknowledgement though he would prefer to charge in and try to save everyone. Ebony is certainly in her element and has Bray right where she wants him: all to herself. What she doesn't know, or Bray either, is that during that little conversation, they were both being observed. From the trees, a stranger watches them. His face decoration is very nature-oriented with a green, leafy design. Who is he?]
[Back at the Mall, Salene rests with her head on a sleepless Ryan's shoulder. She awakens suddenly and immediately calls for him]

Salene:  Ryan?
Ryan:  It's okay Sal, I'm here.
Salene:  Did you get any sleep?
Ryan:  I've been keeping watch. You alright?
Salene:  Don't worry so much.
Ryan:  You need your rest.
Salene:  Ryan, could we keep the pregnancy to ourselves, at least until things settle down a bit?
[He nods his agreement as KC wakes and groans]
KC:  Oh, I'm hungry!
Cloe:  Me too.
Alice:  I guess we all are. How about some breakfast?
KC:  You mean, go...up there?
[He points to the cafe up the stairs, which are currently being occupied by some lovely armed guards in blue robes]
Alice:  Why not? Come on kids.
[They rise to follow her but they're stopped on the stairs when those same guards decide to come down to meet them]
Chosen:  Where do you think you're going?
Alice:  To get breakfast!
Cloe:  Yeah, we're hungry!
Chosen:  Get back down there.
[Alice is flustered by this newest development]
Alice:  It's our caf, that, it's our food!
Chosen:  Not anymore it isn't. You'll be told what to eat, and when. Now get back!
Ellie:  What is this? We need food.
KC:  Yeah, we want food! [He starts chanting as the others move back down to join the rest of the Mallrats] We want food! We want food! We want food!
[They all join in]
Mallrats: We want food! We want food! We want food! We want food! We want food!
[The racket brings the Guardian in with some more Chosen at his back]
Guardian:  Silence! [This does in fact silence them] What is going on here?
Alice:  Look we're hungry. We need to eat.
Guardian:  If you want food, you must earn it. [He moves to stand at the top of the stairs. The better to announce cult doctrine] The new order begins now. The age of Zoot is upon us. There will be no room for rebels or unbelievers, but for the true believer there need be no more fear.
[He smiles benevolently but Ellie isn't fooled]
Ellie:  And no more freedom.
Guardian:  Silence!
Ellie:  We already have our own laws!
[Jack grabs her arm to stop her from making their situation worse]
Jack:  Ellie, what are you doing?
Ellie:  We can't afford to knuckle under to this creep.
Guardian:  From now on, those who transgress will be severely punished. Those who obey, and show themselves worthy, will earn the right to join the Chosen.
[Alice snorts and freely offers her opinion of that idea]
Alice:  Who'd want to?
Guardian:  Until then, you will be treated as slaves and put to work.
Cloe:  We can't work without food.
KC:  Yeah we're hungry!
Guardian:  All in good time. First, you must join me in giving thanks to Zoot. Kneel. [No movement among the Mallrats] All kneel!
KC:  Um, I'm hungry.
[He gets down on his knees]
May:  Me too.
[She joins KC and the others soon follow. Alice clearly doesn't want to give in but she too joins the others after a healthy eye-roll. The only one left standing is Ellie. Jack tries to tug her down but she resists]
Jack:  Ellie, we gotta play it cool.
Ellie:  Jack, no.
[He gives her arm a yank and pulls her down to her knees anyway. Tai-San, who has been observing from her seat on the rim of the fountain this whole time, gets to her feet. She walks in amongst the kneeling Mallrats. Alice must think she's about to do something crazy and speaks out]
Alice:  Tai-San, no.
Guardian:  You. What's your name?
Tai-San:  My name is Tai-San.
Guardian:  Why do you not kneel?
Tai-San:  I do not worship false gods.
[He laughs at her bravado, but he has something she wants. Something they all want]
Guardian:  As you wish. But until you do, there will be no food for you. Or your friends! They will eat only when you, and they, repent!

[He leaves the room and the Mallrats are left to deal with the consequences of Tai-San's actions. Actions which many of them wanted to take anyway]
[The Chosen continue to search for Lex and Bray along the beach, while Lex watches them from cover]

[In the Mall, Tai-San meditates while Jack paces aimlessly. Ellie crosses the room and tears into him for his earlier actions. He tries to defend himself]

Ellie:  Don't you ever, ever do that to me again!
Jack:  Oh. Look Ellie, babe-
Ellie:  I am not your babe!
Jack:  Okay look, I just, I didn't want you to get hurt. I mean, who knows what those crazies might do.
Ellie:  They didn't do anything to Tai-San.
Jack:  Yeah but they could have. Okay look, Ellie, I'm sorry but I only, I only did it because I-
Ellie:  Because what?
Jack:  Because I care about you. Okay?
[Ellie considers that and her expression softens]
Ellie:  Yeah, I suppose so. Come here.
[He's successfully gotten out of the scolding and they stroll off arm in arm. May and Alice lean against the wall not too far from the Chosen. May is watching Tai-San with a disgruntled expression]
May:  What's she doing?
Alice:  Meditating.
May:  With all this going on? [Alice nods. She's already been through this. May apparently doesn't respect Tai-San's choice of passing the time and walks over to her] Hey Tai-San. Tai-San! [She reluctantly opens her eyes and faces May] How long you gonna keep this up?
Tai-San:  I was trying to restore my inner calm. And it's not easy.
[May's inner calm seems to have deserted her long ago. She's very quickly growing angry with Tai-San's seeming indifference to their situation]
May:  You bet it isn't. Especially if you're hungry! What I want to know is, when're we gonna eat?
Tai-San:  There are more important things than food.
May:  Not right now there isn't.
Tai-San:  Fasting can sharpen the senses and heighten awareness. It can be good to deny yourself food.
May:  I'm not denying myself food, you are! We're all gonna starve because of you.
Alice:  Hey May, lay off her! She's got enough on her mind worrying about Lex.
[May makes an effort to calm down and seems to realize she's out of line]
May:  I'm sorry.
Tai-San:  Thanks Alice. I am worried about him.
May:  Hey, Lex can look after himself, right Alice?
Alice:  Sure. If anyone's gonna survive, he will.

[Tai-San doesn't look as confident of that, but she makes a valiant effort to smile at their attempts to reassure her]

[The Chosen move into the woods looking for the escaped Mallrats]

[Bray and Ebony also move through the woods. They are hindered by Bray's injuries and must move at a slower pace. Ebony too is tiring as she supports Bray's weight to keep it off his bad ankle]

Bray:  It's no good. I can't go on; I need rest.
Ebony:  Two minutes, no more. Is it that bad?
Bray:  It's swelled up like a football.
Ebony:  Well let's hope it's just a sprain.
Bray:  Whatever it is, it's getting worse.
Ebony:  Well once we get out of here I'll, I'll try and do something about it.
Bray:  It's no good. I'll never make it.
[They stop beside a tree and Bray slides down to sit at the base]
Ebony:  You will! You gotta.
Bray:  No. You stay with me, we'll both get caught. There's no sense in that. Go on!
Ebony:  And leave you? Well who do you think I am, Lex?
[Someone approaches from ahead of them with no warning. Lucky for Bray and Ebony, it's a familiar voice that speaks]
Lex:  Somebody taking my name in vain? I heard you coming. Couldn't help it with all the noise you're making.
Bray:  Lex, what are you doing here?
Lex:  I couldn't exactly get anywhere with all those Chosen out there. So I'm hidin' out. How 'bout you?
Ebony:  Yeah.

[Lex can see what kind of state they're in. It's a good thing he showed up when he did]

[The Chosen have found a blue feather in the grass, and now they have a trail to follow]

Luke:  They were here. Come on, this way.

[Whether it's Lex's or Bray and Ebony's doesn't really matter. It's only a matter of time before they catch up with the fugitive Mallrats]

[Bray, Ebony, and Lex are still resting by the tree and wasting precious time]

Lex:  I'm not gonna get very far. Not with him in that state.
Ebony:  We will. We just have to take it easy.
Bray:  He's right Ebony. It's no use.
Ebony:  Look, there's three of us now. If Lex comes along, he can help you.
Lex:  I ain't goin' nowhere.
Ebony:  We need you.
Lex:  Tai-San needs me! I'm going back to rescue her.
Ebony:  Oh yeah? And how do you plan to do that?
[Good question. And Lex obviously hasn't thought of a good answer]
Lex:  I don't know yet. But I'm gonna think of something. What about you loverboy? You just gonna leave Danni to the Guardian?
Bray:  No way.
Lex:  Bunch of maniacs. Who knows what they're gonna do.
Bray:  We've got to come up with a way of getting them out of there.
Lex:  Now you're talking.
Ebony:  Well if you think I'm gonna risk my life for Tai-San and Danni-
Bray:  It's not just about them. We've gotta figure out a way of rescuing all the Mallrats.
Lex:  Yeah, I suppose.
[That's an enthusiastic endorsement of Bray's plan. But before they can discuss it further, they hear the sound of voices in the trees. The sounds of someone searching]
Ebony:  Shh! Hear that?
Chosen:  Go that way!
Lex:  Somebody's coming.
Ebony:  That'll be the Chosen. God, what're we going to do?
Lex:  There's no point running. Not with him.
Bray:  Leave me here, I'll take my chances.
Ebony:  No. [She looks off to the side and seems to get an idea] Get in the bushes here. Come on Lex, give us a hand.
Lex:  What're you doing?
[They lift him up and start to lead him in the direction of heavy tree cover. The Chosen continue to draw nearer]
Ebony:  Stay in here and keep your head down.
Lex:  They're gonna find him.
Ebony:  Not if you and I draw them away from him.
Lex:  What?
[They cover him with branches to hide him as much as possible from the eyes of the Chosen]
Ebony:  Think about it. If we make noise, they follow. We lose them. Easy. Once they've gone, we come back and get Bray, okay?
Lex:  Alright. See ya later, buddy.
Ebony:  Don't move.

[Bray lies hidden beneath the branches and leaves and hopes that it's enough. Meanwhile, the stranger who earlier observed Ebony and Bray has been following them through the forest. He too hides in the trees but seems to be much more successful at it]
[Back at the Mall, Alice and Salene are working in the kitchen. Salene is chopping something while Alice tears a piece of lettuce with quite a bit of energy]

Alice:  I hate cooking when we're not allowed to eat.
Salene:  Try not to think about it.
Alice:  Can't help it!
[She says this around the bite of carrot she's just taken as Salene pops a bite of whatever she's chopping in her mouth. Unfortunately for them, the Chosen guard decides to return at this moment and catches them red-handed]
Chosen:  Hey! What are you doing?
Alice:  Uh, I'm just tasting it. Making sure it's alright.
Chosen:  You are a liar and a thief.
Alice:  How do you get that?
Chosen:  You're stealing food.
Salene:  But it's our food.
Chosen:  Was your food. [He speaks over Alice's mumbled objections] This meal is for the Chosen, not for you.
Alice:  But we're hungry!
Chosen:  You heard the Guardian! You can eat when you have all repented. All of you.
Alice:  Tai-San's not gonna give in! What, you think we should starve to death?
Chosen:  If it is Zoot's will, yes.

[They can't believe he'd let them starve in the name of Zoot and can only stand there and stare]

[Ebony and Lex move through the forest listening for sounds of pursuit by the Chosen]

Ebony:  I can't hear anything, can you?
Lex:  Nope, reckon we lost them.
Ebony:  Let's get back to Bray.
Lex:  Right. Quicker we pick him up, the quicker we all get out of here.
[The stranger continues to watch them from the trees. Curious little sucker, isn't he?]
Ebony:  This is it.
Lex:  You sure?
Ebony:  Yeah, he should still be here.
[Only when Ebony checks beneath the cover it looks very much like he isn't there]
Lex:  He's gone.

[Where has Bray gone? Did the Chosen get him or did he move to avoid their search? Lex and Ebony must now figure out how to find him]
